Proper Care and Storage of
Furs
by: Sue Kluger of Kluger Furs
I am often asked the question:
"Should I store my fur for the summer?"
"Should I store my fur for the summer?"
And the answer is a
resounding, “yes.” Even though you may
not have worn your coat as much this past winter, it is very important to
protect and maintain your investment.
This means making sure it is kept in a vault that is cold & humidity
controlled like the one we have at Kluger Furs. And, no, your air conditioned
home is not considered a cold storage vault, nor is your basement an
appropriate location to store your fur. Furs absorb odors, so musty basements
and moth-ball protected closets are a definite no-no.
“What happens if I don’t
store my fur?”
This answer is very
simple….nothing shortens the longevity of your fur like keeping it in your home
during a hot summer. Professional cold
storage is the only way to protect your coats from sunlight, insects and
excessive heat. Eventually your coat
will dry out and start to tear, so do yourself a favor,
bring your coat to Kluger
Furs on-site cold storage vault in Flossmoor Commons for a cool summer vacation!
Regardless of where you
purchased, we will treat your fur with loving care!
